Aurelia — a new spiral in the Aurora family.

We got this enquiry one fine day from Square Architects in Kolkata. They were designing and building a sales office for one of the real estate companies here in the city. After looking through our work, and with what felt like an obvious mutual admiration for each other’s work, they really liked Aurora for one of the meeting areas. But they also wanted something new — something spiral, for the reception. We thought it was a great opportunity to reimagine Aurora in a spiral form and introduce something new to the Aurora family.

And so, we went back to our design boards. After many iterations, we found an option we really loved. We called it Aurelia. What made this piece particularly exciting was that it was something completely new for us — new in form, new in construction, and definitely challenging. Aurelia has no single view. From every angle, it seems to transform, revealing a different relationship between the spirals, curves and spaces. And that made building it quite a challenge. There was no one common face to follow; every part had to be understood in relation to the next. Our designers stayed closely involved throughout the process. Continuous supervision and complete personal involvement with our artisans helped translate the drawings into the final form. The hands played their songs to the rhythm of the spirals — first traced through strokes of the pencil, and eventually brought to life through craft.
